"Medicaid Eligibility"

Denton & Keuler Associate, Melissa Yates, was the featured speaker at the February meeting of the McCracken County Bar Association on Monday, February 17, 2003.  Melissa, a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, gave a presentation on Medicaid: Basics of Eligibility.

The focus of the presentation dealt with technical, financial, and procedural requirements for Medicaid applicants.  Technical eligibility defines who is eligible to make Medicaid application while financial eligibility deals with the asset and income limitations which are imposed on a Medicaid applicant.  Procedural eligibility is the process involved in making the actual application.

Melissa also touched on the issue of estate recovery by the Cabinet for Health Services, Department of Medicaid Services.  Amounts paid to a Medicaid recipient are recoverable from the recipient's estate under certain conditions.

Melissa is scheduled to speak at the Kentucky Oaks Mall Fitness & Friends Mall Walkers February meeting on February 27, the Broadway United Methodist Church Seasoned Adults program on March 17, the Metropolis Rotary Club on April 13, and the Heartland Worship Center Seniors' Ice Cream Social on August 21.
