Who’ll play festival? Wait and see
Summer Festival fun

Old favorites such as the greased pole climbing contest and Oreo stacking competition are back for the 41st annual Paducah Summer Festival. But the entertainment for the nightly riverfront concerts will remain a mystery for a couple more days. The entertainers will be announced Wednesday, Festival Chairman John Pace said.

The concerts, set for 6:30 p.m. July 25- 28 on Wilson Stage, will feature a different genre each night — bluegrass, classic rock, country and rhythm and blues.
Concerts are free, but organizers request a donation. “Where else can you go and pay $2 to see entertainment up close?” Pace asked.
The festival was reduced to a four-day event last year, after spreading across 10 days in recent years.
“We think that worked out well,” Pace said. “It rained out our Thursday night last year, which was kind of a disappointment, but it’s the risk we take with outdoor festivals. You can’t control Mother Nature.”
Pace said the traditional offriver events will be offered, along with the addition of a waiter’s race from 2 to 5 p.m. July 28. The skills of restaurant servers 16 and older will be tested through a variety of activities at riverfront plaza.
The 101st Airborne Division’s Screaming Eagles parachute team will return to the festival after being absent for a few years. The team will parachute near Wilson Stage at 6:30 p.m. July 27. Vendors will set up in the downtown municipal parking lot at 2nd and Broadway.“We will have a significantly enhanced vendor’s area this year,” Pace said. “We usually have 10 or 12 vendors tops, but we’re looking at least 25 vendors this year.”
The festival will end with a fireworks display sponsored by Harrah’s Metropolis Riverboat Casino at 9:15 p.m. July 28.
