Entertainment rocks Summer Festival

High-stacked Oreo cookies, hot air balloons and a country music act on the way up: Paducah Summer Festival organizer John Pace said the 42nd annual romp by the river should follow the tradition established in 1967. “The festival has had a historic tradition of booking up-and-coming acts, especially in country music,” Pace said. He cited country
stars John Michael Montgomery, Vince Gill and Rodney Atkins as acts to hit the Paducah waterfront in the past just before they hit the big time.
“We feel this band Crossin Dixon will fulfill that tradition.” Its video for “I Love My Old Bird Dog” hit No. 6 on Country Music Television’s “Pure Country,”

The museum will host free quilting and craft workshops and allow free admission to anyone for the entire day.
A hot air balloon will kick the day off at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 26.
“Kidz Day at the National Quilt Museum lawn is big for us this year,” Pace said.
Festival favorites such as the Oreo stacking contest and greased pole competition will be in full swing to round out the event.
“Just remember that though everything's free we do accept donations of $2 at concerts,” Pace said. “This event is funded entirely by sponsors and generous donations. The city doesn’t pay for any part of it,” he said.

Eight scheduled performers will take the main stage, including Satisfaction, a Rolling Stones tribute band, and headliner The Cruisers, a rock group of area musicians.“ Satisfaction toured in Las Vegas in showrooms and casinos there,” Pace said. “If they are good enough to play Vegas, then they’re good enough to play Paducah.
