Jay Matheny earned a BS degree in Political Science at Murray State University where he also lettered for four years in MSU Track and Field. Jay received his Juris Doctorate degree from Ohio Northern University, Pettit College of Law in 2006. He gained valuable legislative experience as a congressional intern in 2002 and holds certifications from LexisNexis and Westlaw legal research systems.

Digging into the law is one of Jay’s strengths and professional interests.
This tenacity for research and written argument is a strategic skill that Jay believes is paramount to successful outcomes, and one he personally enjoys employing in his daily proceedings at Denton & Keuler.

Jay also believes having roots in a rural environment gives him a unique perspective for legal disputes. Having grown up in a down-to-earth culture with an emphasis on the rational resolution to disputes allows Jay to draw on his background in a way that is ultimately fruitful for the firm’s valued clients.

Jay is not only a champion of the law and a champion for his clients, he’s also a champion in his own right. As both an All-Conference football player in high school and a state championship track and field star, Jay proved early on that he was one to set a goal, then work diligently to reach it.

“A law professor once told me that, ‘The best way to succeed as a lawyer is to beat ‘em in the books.’ To me, nothing is more true.  Legal research and writing is a critical element of the process. I enjoy the academic challenge of finding applicable law and crafting persuasive arguments from the fruits of my research. However, I always remember who will reap the benefit from my efforts: the client.”
