Southside landmark comes down

March 3, 2011

Mickey Heflin pilots a track hoe as it picks up sheet metal from a portion of wreckage at the former site of Furniture City on Wayne Sullivan Drive on Wednesday. Chief Paduke Development Corp. owns the building next to Kingsway Skateland, according to Dave Denton, attorney and spokesman for the group. Denton said there are no immediate development plans and the building was razed because it was an eyesore. Furniture City was part of three large buildings that occupied the inter-section of Wayne Sullivan and Clark's River Road for years along with Uncle Lee's and Kingsway Skateland. The skating rink is the only one of the businesses that remains.
